A water carrier in India had two pots hanging from either end of a pole that he carried across his shoulders.
One pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water. The other pot had a crack in it and leaked water along the way.
As a result, by the time the carrier reached home, the cracked pot was only half full.
The perfect pot was proud of its accomplishment, while the cracked pot felt ashamed of its flaw and the fact that it could only do half of what it was supposed to do.
One day, the cracked pot spoke to the water carrier.
"I am sorry. Because of my crack, water leaks out all the way to your house, and I fail to deliver my full load."
The carrier smiled and said,
"On our way back today, look carefully at the flowers on your side of the path."
As they walked home, the cracked pot noticed beautiful flowers blooming all along its side of the trail.
Still, it felt sad because it had lost so much water.
Then the carrier explained,
"Did you notice that flowers grow only on your side of the path? I knew about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds there. Every day, the water that leaked from you watered those seeds. Because of you, these flowers have bloomed and brought beauty to the path."
The cracked pot finally understood that what it thought was a weakness had become a source of beauty and purpose.
Moral:
We all have imperfections. Sometimes, the very flaws we try to hide are the things that make us valuable in ways we do not immediately see.
- This is a popular inspirational story from India, often known as "The Two Water Pots" story. Its central message is that even within a person's weaknesses, there can be hidden strengths, value, and unique qualities that contribute positively in ways we may not immediately recognize.
